Fathers of Iowa Hawkeye football players address a crowd of 52,185 at Iowa Stadium in Iowa City during halftime on Dad’s Day. Dad number 11 (left center) is the father of quarterback Kenny Ploen, who would lead the Hawkeyes to a Rose Bowl victory against Oregon State on January 1, 1957. Iowa won the Dad’s Day game, played against the Wisconsin Badgers, 13-7, on October 30, 1954. The game featured two All-Americans: Calvin Jones for Iowa, and Alan Ameche for Wisconsin. Ameche would win the Heisman Trophy in 1954. Iowa Stadium became Kinnick Stadium in 1972.
