Participants of the Maharishi International University’s “Taste of Utopia” conference at Fairfield, Iowa, practice transcendental meditation on Thursday, December 22, 1983, in one of two daily sessions. Meditators from around the world took part in the conference at MIU, which was aimed at curbing world strife by sending out a “unified field of enlightenment to create bliss, immortality and perfect health for the world.”
The 272-acre campus, later known as the Maharishi University of Management, was established in 1974 on the former site of Parsons College (1875-1973) in Fairfield.
