Frozen Fire In Keokuk

KeokukIce began forming outside of Cahill’s Jewelry store in downtown Keokuk, Iowa, early Monday morning, December 2, 1985, as firefighters battled a blaze in near-zero temperatures and high winds. Firefighters were first called to the scene at 4:15 a.m. The fire destroyed three downtown businesses–Dollar General, Cahill Jewelry, Stebbings & Sohl Insurance–and damaged at least two others. One firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation and over-exertion.
